OCA Contracts Fund Bar Groups’ Efforts to Recruit Volunteers
“ The New York City Bar began a pilot program in 2008 with a court grant to represent tenants facing evictions in Manhattan Housing Court . Earlier this month, OCA awarded a new contract to CUNY Law to run the program. During the 18 months that the program was run by the City Bar Justice Center , 106 volunteers represented 250 clients, according to statistics provided by OCA. Volunteers have settled about 90 percent of the cases they handled. ”
