In a keynote address at the New York City Bar Association on Wednesday, a Fordham University law professor opined that it may fall on corporate insurers to combat the rise of “mootness fees,” a controversial merger litigation practice panned by critics as wasteful and exploitative. Professor Sean Griffith delivered his keynote speech midway through this year’s Securities Litigation & Enforcement Institute, the city bar association’s eighth annual symposium of securities litigators, about the derided trend of attorneys chasing easy money with merger challenges in federal court.
