Bronx Leaders Ponder Options if Johnson Leaves DA Post

Under Election Law, [Robert] Johnson, if nominated, has three business days from the filing of the certificate of nomination, a Sept. 29 deadline, to decline either his district attorney run or his judicial run. If Johnson declines the district attorney nomination, the parties have 10 business days from Sept. 29, or until Oct. 12, to submit a certificate to fill the district attorney vacancy for the general election. If he becomes a judicial candidate, bar groups would still have time to screen him. For example, Eric Friedman, a spokesman for the New York City Bar Association, said when it comes to Supreme Court positions, the organization starts its evaluation process after the individuals are nominated and become candidates.
