Join Program Chair Toby Butterfield, Moses & Singer LLP, along with a panel of specialists as they provide an overview and insight into some of the most pressing issues small businesses face in light of the current pandemic.

    An expert panel will cover:

    • The status of government loan programs with a focus towards the popular Paycheck Protection Program (“PPP”) and its various eligibility criteria, payroll calculations, and forgiveness considerations.

    1. Introduction/Overview
    Toby Butterfield will introduce the presentation and panel members and briefly provide an overview of the topics each will discuss.

    2. Paycheck Protection Program (“PPP”) Overview
    Ben Danieli will briefly discuss the history of the Coronavirus, Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (“CARES Act”) and the current state of funding, including:

    • Eligibility criteria;
    • Payroll calculations; and
    • Forgiveness considerations.

    3. Special concerns for sole proprietors and independent contractors under the PPP
    With a focus towards the Small Business Administration’s (“SBA”) Interim Final Rules, as well as experiences of those applying for PPP loans, Clement Wood will discuss:

    • Differences between typical payroll calculations and those for sole proprietors;
    • The PPP loan application process; and
    • Best practices for maximizing loan forgiveness.

    4. Employment policies in a post-COVID-19 world
    Shari Alexander will discuss COVID-19 related changes to employment policies, focusing primarily on:

    • Remote work policies;
    • Disability-related inquiries and medical exams;
    • Hiring and Onboarding;
    • Reasonable accommodations; and Harassment/Discrimination.

    5. Best Practices for remote working
    Toby Butterfield will discuss the best practices for workforces that have been converted from an office to a home setting. Topics will cover:

    • An overview of important privacy settings within various video and teleconferencing platforms; and
    • Ethical obligations, concerns, and pitfalls present when attempting to maintain client confidences in the remote working environment.

    6. Questions and Answers
    Inter-panel discussion and open question and answer session for attendees to ask questions of the panelists regarding any of the discussed topics.
