More than 4,000 United States companies, big and small, utilize the so-called “Safe Harbor” mechanism to comply with European data privacy regulations. On October 6, 2015 the Court of Justice of the European Union invalidated the “Safe Harbor” mechanism. By the end of January 2016, these companies must make substantial changes or risk sanctions from every data protection authority in the European Union.
Far from arcane, this CJEU decision is of immediate importance to thousands of American businesses that operate digitally. The panelists will addresses the real-world compliance requirements for US businesses handling the data of European Citizens, and provide a background of European data privacy law, an insider’s view of the people and players driving the evolving regulatory landscape.
