  • Attorneys frequently require the assistance of co-counsel for matters outside of their practice area(s) or jurisdiction(s). For sole practitioners and small firm lawyers, this commonly requires working with co-counsel outside of their firms, which presents issues not faced by lawyers working within a large firm. This program will explore the practical and ethical considerations for solos and small firm lawyers in these situations. Attendees will receive guidance on of specific issues in this context, including competence, the unauthorized practice of law, scope of representation, fee arrangements, communication and confidentiality. Each segment will be supplemented with an illustrative hypothetical.
