The Environmental Law Committee of the New York City Bar Association, the Environmental and Energy Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia Law School will be sponsoring a CLE event on how climate change will affect non-environmental law practice. The program will be of particular interest to lawyers who practice in the areas of corporate, securities, real estate/land use, energy, banking or insurance law. The far-reaching consequences of climate change will affect virtually every area of practice, and lawyers should account for this fast-emerging issue in providing advice to their clients. The session will begin with a briefing on the profound climate changes that the U.S. and other areas of the world are now experiencing, and on what lies ahead for the climate in coming years. Three panels of experts will then speak on how these changes are now affecting, or soon will affect, practice areas such as corporate law (including among other things the need to consider climate issues in transactional due diligence), SEC reporting, banking, real estate/land use and insurance.
