Fearless Public Speaking for Lawyers

  • This course will develop the skills relied upon by lawyers when engaged in public speaking situations – whether in a courtroom, conference room, or large auditorium. Attendees will learn how to prepare, practice and deliver a talk in an interesting way. Gain knowledge on how to effectively use relevant quotations and anecdotes (not jokes); make eye contact; and gesture like a pro.

    Topics will include:

    • Knowing your audience
    • Determining the optimum time for various talks
    • Preparing your talk with a good opening and good closing
    • Delivery techniques
    • How persuasive public speaking enables lawyers to “make a difference”

    By learning and following time-honored techniques, you’ll no longer fear speaking to groups of any size and be known as “a tough act to follow.”

    7:05 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Delivery Techniques: Speaking Without Notes or Few Notes; Eye Contact; Gestures
    7:30 p.m. – 7:55 p.m. Your Vocabulary, Metaphors and Other Rhetorical Devices

    • Using various types of microphones
    • Question and answer session: how to get and then answer questions
    • How persuasive public speaking enables lawyers to “make a difference”
