This program will describe the history, purpose and procedures of the Uniform Law Commission, examples of proposed uniform laws, as well as laws in development, and opportunities for involvement by volunteers. The ULC, a nationwide non-profit, non-partisan law reform group formed in 1892, drafts suggested acts in areas of the law in which uniformity among the states is desirable. New York has adopted, among others, the Uniform Commercial Code, Uniform Transfers to Minors Act and the Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act. Many other uniform laws have been proposed and adopted in other states but not New York. The program will highlight a few current proposed uniform laws that might be considered by the New York Legislature.
