OCA Expands Virtual Operations to “Non-Essential” Matters

A press release from the NYS Office of Court Administration announcing that virtual court operations will be expanded beyond the categories of essential and emergency matters. Included cases will include pending tort, asbestos, commercial, matrimonial, trusts and estates, felony, and family cases, which make up the vast bulk of trial court caseloads. The existing ban on the filing of new “non-essential” matters will remain in effect. Court proceedings for pending non-essential matters will be heard virtually, with all interactions taking place by Skype or telephone.
