Art Law issues cut across many practice areas; however, the phrase “Art Law” is something of a misnomer. While there are some statutes and regulations that apply specifically to art matters, what we are usually talking about when we speak about “Art Law”is the application of some other body of law • e.g. contract law, copyright law, the law of agency, the Uniform Commercial Code, etc. - to art matters. A panel of experienced practitioners provided the basics of “art law.” Subjects addressed included: Art Transactions (title and authenticity issues); Copyright,Moral Rights and other IP Issues; Art Financing and Museum Law. The program addressed the legal, ethical and practical considerations of transferring art and provided practical tips. This program was intended for those who practice intellectual property law, trust andestates law and litigation, as well as those whohave clients in the art industry, and business executives in the art industry.
