Membership & Auditions

High sopranos, basses, baritones and tenors! Do you watch "The Voice," "Pitch Perfect" or "The Sing-Off" and wish you had another chance to sing in a group -- such as a flexible, diverse and friendly (non-dancing) chorus with eclectic, musically sophisticated, crowd-pleasing repertoire ranging from Billy Joel to Pharrell, Gershwin to gospel, and West Side Story to Pippin and Wicked? (To hear us in action, click here.)

The 80+ voice New York City Bar Chorus ("CBC") will conduct a limited number of auditions (brief, private and low-pressure) in July or August for our fall 2015 cycle, with high sopranos, basses and baritones most likely to be seen this summer. We rehearse two or three Tuesday evenings per month, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, in midtown Manhattan to produce what our audiences describe as a professional-quality sound. We perform frequently as a goodwill ambassador of the New York City Bar, serving our community by bringing music to people in group residences and medical facilities. We also sing for luminaries of the bench and bar and are making connections with other legal choruses around the world. This past season, we made our Off-Broadway debut with two headlining performances in the acclaimed New York Theatre Workshop production of The Events. This fall, we will complete our exchange with the Chicago Bar Association Chorus with a November joint concert in Chicago.

We provide a forum for legal professionals to meet and sing together in a warm, fun and supportive environment offering many social and business networking opportunities. Prior choral or a cappella experience is preferred but not mandatory. Music-reading or sight-reading ability is helpful but not required if you have a "good ear" and a voice that blends well in a group. You also don't have to be a salesperson -- unlike other choruses, we don't require members to sell tickets, and annual dues are modest. Come help us celebrate our 23rd year of spreading musical joy.

If you practice or study law, or otherwise work in a law firm, in-house corporate or government law department, court, law school, legal non-profit, or any other legal setting, whether as a lawyer or non-lawyer, and would like to join us, please e-mail us as soon as possible at membership@citybarchorus.org.
