Letter to the United Nations urging Member States to make governance a stand-alone goal in the Sustainable Development Goals and throughout the Post-2015 Development Agenda

SUMMARY

In a letter to the leadership of the United Nations signed by five committees, the Association urged that governance – open, accountable and participatory – be made a stand-alone goal in the Sustainable Development Goals and throughout the Post-2015 Development Agenda. This inclusion, according to the letter, will serve to recognize the critical role that good governance plays in enabling a wide range of essential development objectives. The letter also noted that substantial work has already been undertaken in this regard, as reflected in official UN documents from meetings and specialized agencies, regional organizations and civil society organizations. The participating committees are: United NationsAsian AffairsEuropean AffairsInter-American Affairs, and Middle East and North African Affairs.
