Letter Regarding Judicial Advisory Committee on Evidence

SUMMARY

The Criminal Law Committee (Monica Hickey-Martin, Chair), along with the Criminal Advocacy Committee, Criminal Courts Committee, State Courts of Superior Jurisdiction Committee, and the Council on Judicial Administration, sent a letter to the Judicial Advisory Committee on Evidence. The Advisory Committee, which was convened last year by Chief Judge Janet DiFiore, has been charged with compiling a guide to New York’s existing law of evidence for the benefit of judges, lawyers and the public. The authoring committees support the guide’s purpose as strictly advisory, and as a resource that will bring clarity to the law of evidence, and believe that even greater clarity will be achieved by including practitioners in the development of the guide. To that end, the authoring committees offer their support and assistance to the Judicial Advisory Committee on Evidence in any way that would be helpful.
