Patents Committee

The Patents Committee is composed of both in-house and outside counsel. The Committee focuses on emerging patent law issues that arise from, for example, judicial decisions and legislation. In addition to its monthly meetings, the Patents Committee holds a variety of events, including roundtable discussions, pro bono workshops, sessions with judicial clerks, and continuing legal education (CLE) courses to keep the community updated on the various revisions to patent law.

A few of the topics recently addressed by the Committee include the America Invents Act, Supreme Court decisions on the presumption of patent validity and business method patents, the scope of patentable subject matter, and patent damages. In the coming year, the Committee plans to discuss the many pending Supreme Court and Federal Circuit decisions of interest and the implementation of the America Invents Act.
