Statement of the New York City Bar Association regarding the attempted murder of the president of the Tanganyika Law Society

The New York City Bar Association strongly condemns the attempt on the life of the president of the Tanganyika Law Society, Hon. Tundu Lissu, a member of Parliament. This heinous act follows the bombing of the law firm IMMMA Advocates in Dar es Salaam on August 26, 2017. 

The Association urges the government of Tanzania to thoroughly investigate these incidents, make public their findings, and bring those culpable to justice. Absent such immediate actions, there is a serious threat to the rule of law and the legal profession in Tanzania and the East African Community.
