Roger Juan Maldonado Nominated to be City Bar President
Roger Juan Maldonado has been nominated as President of the New York City Bar Association. If elected, Maldonado will succeed John S. Kiernan as the 68th president in the Association’s 147-year history. The election will take place at the City Bar’s annual meeting on May 15, 2018. The City Bar also announced its Nominating Committee’s slate of officers and new members of its Executive Committee.
Maldonado, a partner at Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP, represents musicians, publishers, and record labels in litigation to enforce their copyrights and contractual rights. He also assists corporate and commercial institutions in litigation involving claims arising from software development/license disputes, lease agreements, and contract disputes. He has a great deal of experience litigating, arbitrating, and mediating claims involving employment discrimination, employment contracts, and restrictive covenants on behalf of professionals, partnerships, and corporations, and also represents students in federal class actions involving special education services.
At the City Bar, Maldonado is currently Chair of the Task Force on Puerto Rico, and has served as a Vice President and member of the Executive Committee, and as Chair of the Council on Judicial Administration, the Task Force on International Legal Services, the Task Force on Housing Court, and the Housing Court Committee.
Maldonado is a Referee for the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct; a member of the Commercial Division Advisory Council; the Advisory Group of New York State and Federal Judicial Council; and the Board of Directors of the New York Bar Foundation; a former member of the Department Disciplinary Committee, Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department; former Co-Chair of the Committee on Non-Lawyers and the Justice Gap; and has served on the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on the Judiciary.

Sarah L. Cave, of Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP; Brad Karp, of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP; and Matthew Diller, of Fordham Law School, were nominated to serve as the City Bar’s three Vice Presidents.
Ira Feinberg, of Hogan Lovells US LLP, was nominated to continue to serve as Secretary, and Damian Schaible, of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, was nominated to continue to serve as Treasurer.
The nominees for the Executive Committee Class of 2022 are Brenna K. DeVaney, of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Affiliates; Harlan Levy, of Boies Schiller Flexner LLP; Sandra Park, of the American Civil Liberties Union; and Anna Pohl, of Thomson Reuters.
