Recently Enacted Legislation: Expediting Professional Licenses for Spouses of Active Duty Military Members

Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation into law that will allow New York to recognize equivalent out-of-state occupational licenses for military spouses.  The new law will require expedited licensing and allow spouses of active duty military personnel transferred to New York to obtain temporary licenses while their application is pending if they hold an equivalent license in another state.  This bill was supported by the Military Affairs and Justice Committee (Michael Richter, Chair), whose advocacy was instrumental in the bill’s success. The law will go into effect in March 2017.
