Five Hundred Register for Basic Skills Training for Lawyers at New York City Bar
New York , October 9, 2009 – The New York City Bar Association will host “Boot Camp 2009: Basic Training for Lawyers” on Tuesday, October 13 th and Wednesday, October 14 th, to help law students and young lawyers prepare to enter the job market. Five hundred law students and recent graduates, as well as associates whose start dates have been deferred by their firms, have registered for the training, which has among its sponsors 11 area law schools.
“The response to this program has been overwhelming,” said Carroll Welch, Chair of the City Bar Committee on Career Advancement and Management, which is presenting the training. “The economic crisis has deeply impacted the legal market. Downsizings and deferrals are well understood; less noticed has been the evaporation of training programs that are an essential part of an attorney’s early career development.”
The event will feature seminars on career planning, communication, networking, and business, with speakers throughout the day. The event is filled to capacity, but additional information on programming is available at www.nycbar.org
