Description:
This program focuses on ethical and practice issues in utilizing interpreters and is geared towards legal services and pro bono attorneys who work with interpreters in the course of providing legal assistance or representation to low-income clients in New York State courts. Topics include: Best practices in utilizing interpreters when working with clients; Best practices in addressing challenges related to interpreters during court proceedings; Ethical issues that arise when representing clients who are non-English speakers; and New York State court rules, procedures, and resources related to court interpreters.
