A Prison Cell of Our Own Creation
A remarkably diverse chorus of civic voices is calling for an end to policies that make America far and away the global leader in locking people away. This week, for instance, VICE News aired a remarkable documentary on HBO showing President Obama visiting a federal prison (the first sitting President to do so) and urging a slowdown in the pace of incarceration. The New York City Bar Association released a report called “Mass Incarceration: Seizing the Moment for Reform.”
