New York State Election Results
With the winners of most races from yesterday's midterm election decided, control of the New York State Senate continues to hang in the balance as three races remain too close to call. The Democrats went into the election holding a slim 32-30 majority and it remains to be seen whether they will retain that majority, turn control over to Republicans, or face a 31-31 split. In the case of a split, the Lieutenant Governor will be in a position to cast a deciding vote on certain, largely procedural, matters. The contested elections should be decided in the next week and may turn on voters who cast absentee ballots. The Assembly retained a Democratic majority, however Republicans look to gain anywhere from seven to ten additional seats in the house. In statewide races, Andrew Cuomo defeated Carl Paladino to become the State's 56th governor; Thomas DiNapoli was elected as Comptroller; and Eric Schneiderman was elected as Attorney General.
