Ethics Overview – Ethics Panel

The New York City Bar Association’s Committee on Professional Ethics is dedicated to helping New York lawyers understand and comply with their ethical obligations.  The Committee runs the Bar Association’s long-standing ethics hotline, answering questions for lawyers admitted in New York about their own prospective conduct under the New York Rules of Professional Conduct. The Committee also issues formal and informal advisory opinions, which provide general guidance to New York lawyers concerning their obligations under the New York Rules of Professional Conduct. The Committee’s jurisdiction is limited to interpreting the New York Rules of Professional Conduct.  We do not answer questions that require the interpretation of substantive law, including questions concerning the unlicensed practice of law.
