Constructive Perspectives

Occasioned by interest in New York’s Scaffold Law, a series of panels provided a multi-disciplinary and broad exploration of issues related to construction site safety and construction project risk management at a program hosted by the New York City Bar Association on March 13, 2014. The objective of this event, entitled “Constructive Perspectives: Are New York’s Construction Safety and Insurance Laws Serving the Public?”, was to provide balanced educational and contextual background for an important issue that has moved, if not into the spotlight, at least into the light of general public attention.

The first panel set the stage for the event by providing an outline of Labor Law and Insurance Law provisions that were the subject of the other panel discussions. Panel Two provided a multi-disciplinary academic survey of issues related to construction site safety and risk management. Panel Three explored risk management issues in the context of the State’s Labor Law, including the Scaffold Law, and federal OSHA laws. The last panel explored risk management issues in the context of the State’s Insurance Law, which limits the risk management tools and products available for public owners.
