The False Claims Act in Construction Projects

Wednesday, June 17, 2015 | 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Program Chair:
Virginia K. Trunkes, Ganfer & Shore LLP

  • One of the fastest growing litigation areas today involves the False Claims Act (FCA), and in particular as concerning construction projects with the federal government. Failing to appreciate the very broad reach of the FCA exposes contractors to serious financial penalties including treble damages, as suspension and debarment from contracting with the federal and state governments and even criminal prosecution. The expert faculty will explain how the FCA works, the elements of an FCA violation, the types of acts and/or omissions which have been found to violate the FCA, how to counsel clients to avoid committing these violations and how to defend against FCA actions brought by the federal government.
