The Law and Art of Jury Selection: Beyond The Basics

Thursday, December 3, 2015 | 6 pm – 9 pm

  • It is hard to overstate the importance of jury selection. Not only is it an opportunity to identify and de-select biased jurors who cannot be fair and impartial, it is also a chance to create a positive first impression of you, your client, and your case.  It is also the only time you (may) get to speak directly to the jurors and learn something about them.  Some even say that trials are won or lost at jury selection.  Whether you agree or not, one thing is clear:  It is never too early to start preparing for jury selection.

Here, trial judges, practitioners, a jury researcher, and a public speaking coach will discuss the ins and outs of this important part of the trial.  What questions to ask, how to ask them, and how to use the information in de-selecting jurors.  And, above all, how to appear confident, likeable, and conversational while doing it.
