Anti-Money Laundering for Lawyers: How to Develop a Comprehension Compliance Program

Wednesday, October 25, 2017 | 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

 Program Chair:

Aditi B. Pascual, Legal and Compliance Attorney, Standard Chartered Bank

  • Anti-Money Laundering (“AML”) regulations based on the Bank Secrecy Act (“BSA”) and the Office of Foreign Asset Control (“OFAC”) seek to stop fraudsters from using financial institutions to “legitimize” the proceeds of their ill-gotten gains. There has been a steady uptick in supervisory and enforcement actions involving BSA/AML/OFAC issues for all types of financial institutions, coupled with sterner warnings from regulators.

Many newer attorneys have opted for careers in compliance, notably BSA/AML/OFAC.  Other in-house lawyers may serve as “counsel” to the company BSA Officer.  The purpose of this CLE is to a) introduce lawyers to a career path in Anti-Money Laundering; b) discuss best practices in developing a comprehensive BSA/AML & OFAC policy; and c) discuss recent trends from the regulators.
