  • 3D printing has evolved from an expensive, complicated technique once used only by mechanical engineers to a disruptive technology with the capability to transform the toy and fashion industries, among others. Cheap and user-friendly printing and scanning hardware, coupled with freely available design files, allow anyone – artists and hobbyists as well as startups and multinationals – to quickly create complex pieces on demand, and at remote locations.  3D printing technology is already pitting existing patent, trademark, and copyright protection schemes against free and open innovation, and IP owners and emerging companies should take notice of the other areas of the law that will be impacted as the use of this technology grows.  Join our panelists in a lively discussion of these and other issues as they assess and predict the impact of 3D printing on the law.
