NYC Know Your Rights Project

Volunteer

Volunteers for the NYC Know Your Rights Project rotate through weekly clinics at the Varick Federal Detention Facility where they interview and advise immigrant detainees on the detainees’ eligibility for claims of immigration relief.  Immigration experts direct the volunteers’ evaluation of each case at the clinic and provide guidance for any substantive legal follow up on the cases as needed.  NYC Know Your Rights Project staff train volunteers at semi-annual and firm-based trainings, as well as coordinate and facilitate the weekly clinics, and oversee the logistics of any follow-up the volunteers conduct.

To volunteer for the NYC Know Your Rights Project, please contact your firm’s pro bono coordinator.  If you are a member of AILA-NY and interested in participating, please contact the chair of the Pro Bono Committee.
