Immigration Outreach Project
Overview
Immigration Intake Line: 212.382.6710
The Immigration Outreach Project is run by the Fragomen Fellow, an experienced associate provided by leading immigration firm Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen and Lowey, LLP.
A collaboration with community-based organizations, including the South Queens Boys and Girls Club, Children’s Aid Society and The Legal Aid Society, the project organizes legal clinics, presentations and workshops with volunteer immigration attorneys to provide accurate information about immigrant rights and options, as well as assistance in the preparation of naturalization applications.
The Project's latest endeavor is a collaboration with The Legal Aid Society, AILA, several New York law schools and a half dozen prominent New York City law firms on the New York City Know Your Rights Project to provide immigration legal assistance to detainees at the Varick Street Detention Center in Manhattan. Starting in December 2008, teams of volunteer attorneys have been trained by the Justice Center to conduct screenings and intakes at the facility to determine whether immigration relief is available to detainees. When appropriate, they have been able to make referrals to pro bono and other counsel.
