Foreclosure Project

Volunteer

The Lawyers’ Foreclosure Intervention Network conducts trainings covering substantive consumer law, practice and procedure, as well as information about recent changes in the law governing foreclosure.

LFIN volunteer attorneys assist homeowners in a number of ways: defending against a mortgage foreclosure action, negotiating with the lender to modify or restructure the loan, attending a settlement conference, representing a borrower in a bankruptcy proceeding, or, where the home cannot be saved, helping to secure an orderly transition with minimum damage to credit.

We interview clients in our office at the City Bar to determine eligibility and get the basic facts of the case. We then describe the case in an email to volunteers, who then select the cases they will handle.
