Foreclosure Project

Overview

Foreclosure Intake Line: 212.382.6676

Mortgage foreclosure filings have reached record levels in the New York State and City courts. Many of these filings include foreclosures on residential properties, which have wide-ranging effects not only on the families displaced from their homes but also on the banking community, on neighborhoods destabilized by the rising number of foreclosed properties sitting vacant and on the state economy.

The Foreclosure Project is a multifaceted approach to this crisis that includes several components. The Lawyers Foreclosure Intervention Network (LFIN), begun in June 2007 and co-sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, provides legal assistance to low-income homeowners facing foreclosure with the goal of keeping people in their homes. In helping to stem the rising tide of foreclosures, LFIN will not only provide valuable services to individual homeowners but also help protect some of New York City’s most vulnerable neighborhoods from the economic fallout caused by this crisis.
