What does the Justice Center do?
The City Bar Justice Center's projects are focused in three areas: : Economic Justice, Immigrant Justice and Access to Justice Innovations. The projects, complemented by a high-volume legal hotline and a pro bono program development clearinghouse, address the unmet needs for civil legal services in New York City. Our model is efficient and effective: each project is developed and overseen by an experienced legal expert, coordinated by a dedicated staff member and delivered through pro bono volunteer lawyers and community outreach.

Growing out of the New York City Bar’s longstanding dedication to pro bono legal services, the Justice Center
succeeded the Robert B. McKay Community Outreach Law Program (COLP) and the Self-help Information and
Education Hotline (SHIELD) programs of the City Bar Fund, the pro bono affiliate of the New York City Bar, in 2005.
