professional lives of its 23,000 members and to serve the public.
The City Bar offers lawyers from all segments of the profession a
wide variety of services and opportunities to meet their professional
goals and fulfill their personal interests. The Association hosts over
200 events a year open to the public including career advancement and
professional development programs. It also offers comprehensive continuing
legal education programs by leaders in the profession.
The Association’s 160 committees work to reform the law, improve
the administration of justice and shape public policy on the local,
state, national and international levels.
The City Bar's members-only library is the largest member-funded law
library in the country, and provides a gateway to online services,
while continuing to provide more traditional library services.
The Legal Referral Service, jointly sponsored by the Association and
the New York County Lawyers' Association, provides the public with
referrals to qualified, experienced and trustworthy attorneys. The
public can submit a request at www.ilawyer.com or call 212-626-7373
to speak to a qualified referral counselor.
The City Bar Justice Center identifies the most pressing legal concerns
of New York's neediest and uses novel approaches to address them, often
involving community participation.
The House of the Association, at 42 West 44th Street, was built in
1896 and is a registered landmark.
