EVENT DETAIL City Bar Contemplative Lawyers Group: How to Work with Emotions in Law Practice Thursday, March 25, 2010 7 pm
Event has expired. Registration for this event is no longer available.
As lawyers we are often confronted with strong emotions--with our own and with the emotions of those around us. Frequently, we can become trapped by our emotions, responding to a situation out of emotion rather than choosing our response. Mindfulness practice enables us to experience 'moments of mindfulness' which allow us to consider and chose how we want to respond. We will discuss a simple set of steps that can be used in every day life that allow us to choose how to respond to the strong emotions life presents.
The speaker will be John McIlwain, Senior Resident Fellow for Housing at the Urban Land Institute and formerly managing partner at Powell, Goldstein in Washington D.C. and CEO of the Fannie Mae Foundation. John is a member of the Teachers Council of the Insight Meditation Community of Washington, DC.
