The New York City Bar Association is now accepting nominations for the 22nd Annual Legal Services Awards. The award is designed to recognize the efforts of lawyers and non-lawyers who have, for an extended period during their career, devoted themselves to the provision of free civil legal services on a full-time basis to indigent persons. <

The City Bar Justice Center’s Veterans Assistance Project has released the New York City Veteran’s Legal Resource Guide (pdf), a 46-page reference designed for both veterans and veterans’ service providers. The guide lists organizations that provide free legal assistance to low-income veterans, and is organized into categories and presented in the order of the most frequently requested areas of assistance, including Housing, Homelessness, Public Benefits and Debt/Consumer matters. The City Bar Justice Center presented its second annual Jeremy G. Epstein Awards for Pro Bono Service yesterday, honoring volunteer lawyers for outstanding work on Justice Center projects. The Public Service Network, a City Bar Justice Center initiative, is celebrating the placement of its 1,000th volunteer this week. Formed in 1997, the Public Service Network encourages lawyers to engage in public service by matching attorneys with legal and non-legal volunteer opportunities in the nonprofit sector. To date, the Network’s volunteers have contributed over 150,000 hours of service, valued at over $20.5 million.
