In response to the increase in the number of attorneys forced by the economy to start their own businesses, The City Bar’s Small Law Firm Committee has produced a report covering the essentials of running a small firm or solo practice.
The report’s content, guided in part by a survey of over 300 City Bar members and other attorneys at CLEs, small law firm luncheons and lectures, and through an online distribution list, is divided into six topics: the attorney client relationship and retainer agreements; conflicts of interest; billing practices; exit strategies and law firm partnership agreements; technology and social media; and professional liability insurance. A separate “best practices” section aggregates all the points throughout the report that are applicable in a broader context of general law practice management.
